| First Tracks
It's been an epic season in UT, after getting over 6 big dumps with 3-4 feet of fresh powder at the beginning of this week AND tomorrow; it's just been chaos trying to be the first in line for the chair lifts. I ask other skiers if they work on Tuesdays but they all replied, "Never on a powder day!" How awesome is that, no one goes to work after a big dump and it's accepted/expected by their employers.
If you never experienced skiing/boarding in waist deep powder it's something you must experience. it's like riding an endless wave of snow as if your floating above a cloud. but keep in mind it's a totally different type of skiing technique which i'm still trying to perfect but entirely satisfying.
"First Tracks is a program that provides pre-arranged, private, early
lift access, guided skiing from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. from the Wasatch
Express chairlift" - Deer Valley. The resort opens at 9am so you typically get to be the first one on the mountain making fresh lines. But it comes with a hefty price tag of $1,200. So yeah, getting fresh lines, in fresh powder is like dying and going to heaven, it's a big deal over here.
I'm off to the Canyons Resort tomorrow morning where I hear it got double the amount of snow as to DV. We're bringing a transmitter, and shovel just in case. Avalanches are serious accident over here in UT, you can never be too cautious.
FYI - it's the the VISA Freestyle International - World Cup, over here at DV it's awesome watching the aerials and ski cross competitions/(tryouts for now). they get sooo much air it's unreal.
On another note: Burton Snowboards is challenging snowboarders to go where they're not
wanted, offering a $5,000 bounty for the best video of those who take
to the slopes at "elitist, fascist" ski resorts that don't allow
snowboarding, at either Alta Ski Area and Deer Valley in Utah and Mad River Glen, Vt (the last 3 resort in the States to ban boarders)
